American Library Association
Assistant Director for the Office for Intellectual Freedom

I started my career as a young adult librarian in a small town in Wisconsin. In 2009, I went through a multiple book challenge of YA LGBTQ titles. My passion for fighting censorship was only flamed by this experience. I served as Wisconsin Intellectual Freedom Roundtable Chair. In 2014, I was hired as the Assistant Director for the Office for Intellectual Freedom at ALA in Chicago. Most days I can be found talking to and supporting librarians and teachers going through challenges. I get between 4-6 new censorship cases a week. Some cases are big and public, some are small and confidential. All of them are important.
